Week beginning 10.11.2014

Time is flying by! We have now started our new English unit learning about recounts. We began the week by reading 'The Day I swapped my Dad for Two Goldfish', to the amusement of the children! Since then we have learned about the difference between present, past and future verb tenses and next week we will begin by writing diary entries, using the past tense and using VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers, punctuation).

With Mrs Sandhu, the children are learning about Humorous poetry and will soon be writing their own poems. I can't wait to be entertained by them!

In PE we have now moved from learning about ball on ground games (football and hockey) to netball. The children brilliantly grasped the idea of pivoting and using the basic chest and shoulder passes and are using their tactical awareness from previous games lessons to better understand the game of netball.

In Computing lessons, Year 4 have developed some complex prototypes of a new maths game programme using the online version of Scratch. They had to 'troubleshoot' at times to fix problems and persevered to produce some fantastic mental maths games. Some even showed us how to add sound and other graphics to their games.

In Maths the children have been learning how to understand multiplication - by arrays, numberlines and using different manipulatives. I have been delighted that so many have been using mathletics at home to practise their multiplication facts . I have reminded the children of the importance of keeping their password safe and secure and making sure that it is only them who log into their account. Do let me know if your child needs any time on the computer in school.

DT project

Thank you for the items that have so far been sent in for our Anderson Shelter project. Please keep them coming!

The children would really like to show you their finished creative projects in the form of a museum display and so we will be holding our museum on Thursday 11th December, after Evacuee Day in the classroom.

On Monday we are looking forward to the St Albans Museum outreach session about life on the Home Front! Thank your for your contributions towards this session.
