We have had a very busy start to the school year in 4D!
The children are showing great enthusiasm for our topic ‘World War 2’, and have surprised me with their wealth of knowledge on this subject already. Thank you to those parents who have shared books and photographs with the rest of the class, they are making a fantastic display.
In English we have been reading the book ‘friend or foe’ which is about two boys from London who are evacuated to Devon during World War 2. The children have enjoyed creating role plays based on this book and have produced some excellent pieces of independent writing, focusing on vocabulary choice.
In Maths we have been learning how to add, subtract, divide and multiple numbers mentally, and using taught written methods. This week we will be looking at time, primarily how to tell the time on analogue and digital clocks, how to convert between analogue and digital times and how to calculate between time intervals.
In RE our topic is ‘people’. We have been looking at our own family tree, and Jesus’ family tree. We have been looking more closely at the members of Jesus’ family, including Abraham, Joseph, Naomi, Ruth and Solomon.
We are studying digestion in Science this half term. We have studied the organs involved in digestion and are now looking more closely at teeth. We are thinking about how we can take care of our teeth, and this week we will be undertaking an experiment to see which liquids are bad for our teeth!
TRING Dance is beginning this week and will continue till half term. This will replace our indoor PE session but the PE days will not change. Children are still required to have their PE kits in school every Tuesday and Friday.
A final reminder to parents that it is our class assembly this Friday on Harvest and I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible!
