week beginning 01.02.16

This week the children wrote their own episode for the Spiderwick Chronicles, a series of books we have been studying in class this term. Their ideas were fantastic as always and all of the children had clearly put alot of thought and effort into this piece of writing. There was some superb language being used to describe their characters and setting and the children have been working hard on their sentence construction and use of correct punctuation. A photocopied version of these stories have been sent home and must be redrafted (typed or written) over half term. I plan to put their stories into a class book for the children to enjoy during independent reading.

In maths this week we have been dividing 3 digit numbers by single digits using the chunking method. This is a hard mathematical concept and I was impressed by how quickly the children got the hang of it.

Each child made their own switch in science this week, which they then tested by putting it into a circuit which they had built. They had great fun doing this and all switches were a success!

To link with our topic this term, the children have sketched some wonderful portraits of Tudor monarchs in Art with Mrs Hanefey. They will be sketching their final portraits next week and I am very much looking forward to seeing the work they produce. There are certainly some very talented artists in the class!

The children choreographed their own Tudor dance routines this week, in preparation for a boys vs girls dance off next week!

On Friday of next week every class will be taking part in a poetry recital to the whole school. 4D will be performing a poem by a poet called James Carter, who we studied during our poetry unit last term. The poem is called shooting star and I have given each child a copy to take home and learn off by heart. If you could practice this with them at home that would be much appreciated.
