Week beginning 22.02.16

I hope you all had an enjoyable half term and the children had a well-deserved rest. The children have certainly come back with lots of enthusiasm for our new topics!

For the next few weeks we will be studying a non-fiction text called ‘Incredible Sports’ in Literacy. We will be looking at the features of report writing and the children will write their own newspaper report at the end of the unit.

This week in Maths the children have been learning about decimal numbers and place value. Although a challenging topic the children have managed to compare, order, round, multiply and divide decimal numbers including hundredths and thousandths! Next week we will be adding and subtracting amounts of money and solving challenging addition and subtraction problems.

We have began a new topic in Science this term called ‘Sound’. This week we discussed how sound is made and sketched sound wave graphs showing pitch and volume. Next week we will be studying how sound travels through the ear. If you have any child friendly books on sound which we could borrow until Easter that would be much appreciated.

In RE we have been looking at why Catholics take Holy Communion. The children have an impressive knowledge of this topic and have produced some thoughtful and reflective ideas.

In PE this half term the children will be playing dodgeball and tennis. Please make sure the children have the correct indoor and outdoor PE kit every Tuesday and Friday.
